Winter carries the year at high rates, while summer has grown substantially around hiking, cycling and music festivals. Housing costs push most of the workforce to live in Eagle, Gypsum and further down the valley.
The Eagle River Valley's service workforce is substantially Spanish-speaking, and the commute from down-valley is a defining feature of life here. Guests are affluent, domestic and international, and ski-resort service is unusually conversational — conditions, lessons, equipment, dinner, all of it discussed rather than transacted. Limited English caps an employee at the roles furthest from the guest and the tip.
