English training for hotel servers and bartenders

Not general English. The English your restaurant & bar team uses every shift — taking the order, describing the menu and handling allergies — taught in Spanish, practiced five minutes a day, measured on the CEFR scale.

In short

Hotel English Training teaches Spanish-speaking servers and bartenders the English of taking the order, describing the menu and handling allergies. Food and beverage directors and HR buy it per property, in the United States and Canada. Every employee takes a free CEFR placement test, then practices five minutes a day in the web app. Target level for the position: B1.

The English of the job

What your servers and bartenders rehearse — the situations, not the grammar.

Every drill in the restaurant & bar module starts from a moment of service that actually happens on shift. These are the situations the module is built around, and the placement test asks each person to handle several of them out loud before any training begins:

  • Welcoming guests and seating a table for two
  • Recommending a dish and explaining, in a few words, what comes with it
  • A shellfish allergy: checking with the kitchen and guiding the guest through what is safe
  • A steak sent back: an apology, the kitchen, and no extra charge
  • Strict dietary restrictions — vegan, gluten-free, no soy — handled with a real recommendation and a drink suggestion
  • The check: anything else, and cash or card
  • Banquet service with exact dietary counts, bar service around events

Model phrases, native-speaker audio and correction the same day. The instruction is in Spanish; the English is what gets practiced. Staff whose first language is not Spanish get much less from it, and we say so before you sign.

Target level

Restaurant & Bar: CEFR B1.

A2 minimum to take an order; B1 to recommend and resolve. Taking the order is A2. Describing a dish, confirming an allergen with the kitchen and fixing a wrong table without escalating it are B1 — and an allergy misheard is a risk, not a service detail. That is why the module targets B1 for the whole position rather than the A2 that gets an order to the kitchen.

The placement test fixes each person's real level on the A1 to B2 scale, and daily practice is set from that starting point rather than from the team average. A department map of levels is what you have on day one, before you spend anything.

These targets are our mapping of published CEFR can-do descriptors onto hotel tasks — a professional judgement, not a standard issued by the Council of Europe. The CEFR record is an internal, functional assessment; it is not a Cambridge, TOEFL or IELTS certificate and has no immigration value.

How the daily practice works

Five minutes a day, inside the shift. Progress HR can read.

01

Free placement test

About 30 minutes per person, built around this position: 13 diagnostic items, 10 listening items with real guest audio and 6 spoken answers scored by AI. Result: a CEFR level (A1 to B2) per employee and a level map for the department, free, whether or not you subscribe.

02

Daily practice on their phone

A short scenario from this position's real work: listen to the guest, respond out loud, get corrected the same day. Content is chosen per employee, per role and per level, on a lean web-based platform with nothing to install, and it is built so the habit survives high season and shift rotations.

03

HR dashboard

Level, progress and streaks per employee, per department and per property, exportable for the monthly report. For groups, one view across properties.

The learning system behind the practice — how it is calibrated for Spanish speakers and why it holds through the hard weeks — is the company's intellectual property and is presented in full in the demo, applied to your roles and headcount. The public outline is on The Method.

Pricing

Per property, by headcount band. Never per employee.

Adding or removing servers and bartenders inside the band does not change the invoice — deliberate, because hospitality turnover would otherwise make a hotel rebuy seats all year. The restaurant & bar module is included in every plan alongside the other positions, assigned per employee.
