Avalon's year-round community is substantially Spanish-speaking, and the island's hotels, restaurants and tour operators draw their staff from it, with scarce housing making every trained employee worth keeping. Guests are domestic weekenders, cruise passengers ashore for a day and international visitors, all arriving with the same logistics questions about ferries, golf carts and tours.
